Connections: A Therapeutic Weekend Workshop
Virtual Workshops Available for Individuals or Groups
"Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they're never weakness. " Brené Brown, PhD
Details:
One Pre-Workshop meeting to discuss possibilities, identify goals to set you on a focused path towards the workshop.
One weekend, Four 2 Hour sessions, or 10 Weekly Sessions to Cover 12 Lessons
What's Included: A copy of Dr. Brown's book, I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn't)
Personal binder with all curriculum and resources ($450)
Lunch and refreshments both days.
*Unfortunately, insurances will not cover group workshop hours. Please inquire about billing pre and post-workshop sessions. Individual workshop sessions which occur weekly can be billed through insurance.
Format: Participants will be encouraged to read the book corresponding to lessons (reading list provided), watch short video clips of Brene Brown, PhD, and then start worksheets, answer questions, and explore experiences. Most of the 12 lessons include handouts and worksheets that facilitate a deeper felt sense of understanding. The curriculum is built to be reviewed and repeated over time, as needed.
This newest iteration of the workshop will be a very small group experience. Each member will work with me ahead of the workshop to identify a focal point for your work with the curriculum. The in-person workshop will allow deeper exploration, within your comfort zone. A small group, in my experience, provides an incredible opportunity to build shame resilience and practice new skills, in real time.
What's It All About...
Connections is based on the research of Brené Brown, Ph.D and draws on empirically based strategies to help individuals recognize shame as a universal experience and embrace authentic living as a foundation for shame resilience. Topics include identifying how shame shows up in your life, differentiating shame from the experience of humiliation, guilt, and embarrassment, creating a skill set that centers on empathy-one of the cornerstones of shame resilience, exploring triggers and vulnerabilities, practicing critical awareness, reaching out to others, and most importantly shifting our lens to one of self-acceptance and non-judgement.
**Connections will be supplemented with Brene Brown's newest book, Atlas of the Heart; essentially an encyclopedia of emotion.
I am passionate about sharing this curriculum with you and others. Shame has a profound impact on our ability to connect in meaningful ways to family, friends, and loved ones. Connections is not curriculum widely offered, given Dr. Brown’s newer research areas, and provides a unique opportunity to build a foundation of compassion around your experiences of shame.
Who is a good fit for Connections?
If you are already in a supportive therapeutic relationship, this curriculum can deepen your work with your therapist by providing you with specific examples of areas in which you'd like to improve emotional resilience. If you have been thinking about starting therapy of any kind, Connections can provide a strong foundation on which you can build future work. If you are seeking a therapeutic experience you can explore on your own, Connections provides excellent scaffolding as well as tools for making change.
This curriculum and workshop will meet you precisely where you are on your journey. No matter where you begin, you'll have a map for moving forward.

What past participants have to say...
"Before I took this workshop, I'd had a feeling (from reading various Brené Brown books) that I had a lot of shame but felt like it was a larger, abstract, and confusing problem that I had no idea how to solve. Now, having finished the workshop, I know where I'm at in my shame journey and have tools to move forward, and a lot more hope."
"This workshop is a great gift to give yourself. I took this course as a part of my self-care journey. It was important to have a set day and time that allowed me to focus on this area that I've wanted to learn more about. Having a safe and compassionate place to share experiences, thoughts and fears, increased the learning for me. It was so helpful to hear others share their "shame stories" that I could personally relate to."
"Being a part of this group gave me the structure and support to really dig deep and look at how shame plays out in my life. The book, curriculum, and facilitator provided accessible, relatable information that I have been able to apply to my own life. I look forward to continuing to build my shame resilience, and with it, more meaningful, fulfilling relationships."
